Corporate governance has been getting more attention in China as the country takes a more prominent stage in the global economy. How can Chinese authorities regulate the listed State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) that are usually seen as less disciplined than non-SOEs? From his research, Prof. Xie Jin discovers an alternative governance mechanism based on the fear of reputational sanctions among these Chinese firms. Being a financial hub and international city, how is Hong Kong compared to other major cities in terms of corporate governance in the recent study? What areas does Hong Kong need to improve on? Mr. Wong Kim Man will share his insights on the current issues related to corporate governance and suggest what lessons we can learn from them.
