Apart from penguins, what else can we find in Antarctica? Why do so many countries want a piece of this frozen continent?

The Antarctic is home to abundant natural resources. Currently, all the landmass and ice shelves of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean south of latitude 60°S are regulated under the Antarctic Treaty System which has been enacted to set aside Antarctica as a natural reserve, and to devote it to scientific investigations. However, the ‘Environmental Protocol’, the most significant element of the System for environmental protection of the Antarctic, will be expired in 2048. How would this impact the Antarctic?

In collaboration with local non-governmental organization ProjecTerrae, science communicator Dr Stephen Ng, and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change is proud to present the ‘Beyond 60°S’ Exhibition. This new exhibition will showcase the rich biodiversity and natural resources of the Antarctic through art installations, graphics and photos.

The opening ceremony of the ‘Beyond 60°S’ Exhibition will be held on 30 August 2018. For details, please visit the Museum’s website: http://www.mocc.cuhk.edu.hk/
